About the 5th grade year at LMA
Mrs. McCormick’s fifth grade teacher, Ms. Mando, was the best teacher she ever had. She is still coasting on her 5th grade learning in many ways. Ms. Mando expected a lot, and she did more for her than she thought she was capable of… and that’s the magic of 5th grade! It’s time to expand your definition of what you are capable of, what is out there, and how to discover and master it.
This year we’ll become expert classifiers (the animal kingdom, types of weather, nuclear particles), delve more deeply into American History and how it shaped issues of today, read quality literature and discover what makes it so moving (and how we can use that in our writing!) We are also going to become fluent in the language of fractions, decimals, and percentages, and how we can flow between them. The heroes of science, history, and literature will be our guides this year!
What does Mrs. McCormick look forward to the most about teaching at LMA?
She is so looking forward to some hands-on, face-to-face learning at LMA. The family-like environment allows for learning in collaborative and layered ways that are exciting and more profound and lasting. She is also looking forward to siphoning off some energy from those kids!
5th Grade Supply List:
- 20 #2 pencils
- 1 box colored pencils (8 colors)
- 1 pink eraser
- 4 glue sticks
- 2 packs of index cards
- 1 ruler in both inches and metric
- 1 pair scissors
- 1″ ring poly binder ( the slightly floppy kind)
- 1-2 packages notebook paper will be used during the year (college ruled)
- 2 2-pocket folders
- 2 Composition Books
- 3 rolls paper towels
- 2 boxes tissues
- 2 containers disinfecting wipes
- 1 Art shirt
Please provide a place at your home for storage of supplies. DO NOT send in all supplies at the beginning of school because there will not be a place to store them.
