School Board Members
Michelle Thom is in her first year serving as Administrator of Luther Memorial Academy.
Pastor Jay Mitchell (he/him) is Pastor of Luther Memorial Church and Academy.
John Bartlett, School Board President, has two children currently attending LMA. He is a licensed attorney who has worked in both the legal and banking fields in Erie. Originally from Massachusetts, John moved to Erie in 2012 with wife, Natalie.
Stanley Rose is a member of Luther Memorial Church and current Congregation President.
Jim Wertz is a Professor of Journalism and Digital Media at PennWest – Edinboro University, where he’s taught since 2005. He joined the LMA School Board in 2017 and served as Board President from 2020-2023. He is the proud father of one LMA graduate, one LMA student, and one future LMA Lion.
Natalie Montero is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at PennWest – Edinboro University. Her son, Aiden who is now 20 years old, attended Luther Memorial Academy. She has been on the Board for over nine years.
Michael McCormick is General Manager at McCormick Brothers Services. His daughter is in Fourth grade at LMA, and this is his fourth year serving on the School Board.
Miriam Scheid has been the Parish Manager of Luther Memorial Church and the Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer of Luther Memorial Academy since October 2007. She also helps with tech support for the school. Miriam grew up in Orlando, Florida, and moved to Erie in 1988. She has three adult children and two grandchildren. Miriam enjoys the beach, camping, kayaking, and loves to travel.
Katie Romba has taught First Grade at LMA for 17 years.
Shannon McAdoo was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and then came to Luther Memorial Church when they merged. Her daughter started at Luther in Second grade in 2003 and thrived during her seven years here. She feels lucky that her position as an Office Manager allows her the flexibility to volunteer at LMA. Shannon has lead or assisted with fundraising, the Accelerated Reader program, PTL, technology, field trips, and wherever else help was needed.
Greg Kern has been a member of Luther Memorial Church for over 30 years. He is a Certified Public Accountant and has been treasurer of the Church for 30+ years. Greg has a son and daughter that attended LMA and both are working in the area in successful careers .
MJ Howell, Member Emeritus, has given 40 years of volunteer work to LMA.
Maria Goellner (“gell-ner”) has one child at LMA and will soon have two attending. She is a Public Interest attorney working on criminal justice priorities in legislatures across the country.
